Kids across the nation will soon be learning about the sport of garden
tiller racing.
The Emerson, Arkansas, PurpleHull Pea Festival has been notified that the
Nickelodeon television cable channel plans to attend the festival’s feature
event, the World Championship Rotary Tiller Race.
Nickelodeon will tape a segment about the tiller race for “Nick
News,” a news program for children, hosted by Linda Ellerbee.
The World Championship Rotary Tiller Race, a race of souped-up garden
tillers, is held in Emerson each year on the last Saturday of June in
conjunction with the PurpleHull Pea Festival.
“We’re extremely flattered that Nickelodeon has decided to cover our
event,” said festival spokesman Bill Dailey.
“I’m sure they’ll see quite a show, and kids will get a kick out of
it. We truly are the highlight of
the tiller racing season.”
In February of this year, the PurpleHull Pea Festival won the Arkansas
“Festival of the Year” award at the annual meeting of the Arkansas Festival
Association.
The Emerson PurpleHull Pea Festival will be June 28 and 29, on and near
the grounds of Emerson High School. The
tiller race is scheduled for 3:30 p.m., Saturday, June 29.
